We were burglarized back in June. They didn't take much and the sheriff's office recovered the goods, along with the suspected perps. The problem? They have my nice new TV. It will sit in their evidence storage closet until the case is closed - that is, unless the perps plead guilty, we have to wait for trial and all appeals before we get the TV back. And the insurance company, of course, won't pay to replace it, since it's not LOST - just confiscated.
Bleeding-heart liberal that I am, I understand that we're all innocent until proven guilty, and it's the govt's job to prove guilt. However, I wish that we didn't have to have our stuff in storage for a year or more. A good lesson in letting go, eh?
Definite bummer. Then again, at least they have your stuff. Our stuff is probably all over the US by now, with nothing recovered. A team of burglars were caught soon after our break-in, but no evidence that they were the ones who hit our home :( As for 'innocent until proven guilty in a court of law' - if the sign on your back says your the burglar then I'm going to believe the sign. No need for the jury to tell me :)

Perhaps you are kidding, but Conservatives also believe in innocent until proven guilty. It's the liberals that champion criminals to the point that police have to keep your stuff, lest the perps get off on a technicality.
Best of luck with the case!
